The New Mayor Pledges a 'Fresh Chapter' for New York City in Inaugural Address
During an initial day in his new role, Zohran Mamdani committed to “transform” New York City, declaring “a fresh chapter” and an audacious commencement to his administration.
A Groundbreaking Leader
The young figure, who just a year ago remained a relatively obscure state assemblyman, now stands as the city's first mayor born in Africa. He also made history by being the first to be sworn in using the Qur'an.
“A moment like this seldom arrives and rarer still is it that the citizens whose hands are upon the controls for transformation,” Mamdani added.
Defying counsel to be modest, the mayor asserted: “I will do no such thing. The only expectation I seek to reset is that of limited ambitions. Beginning today we will rule with courage and vision.”

A Costly Platform
Mamdani now faces one of the most demanding jobs in American politics, with a platform including:
